Sept 2: Ezekiel 37,38,39 Ezekiel is off having visions again, and the language he uses is considered apocalyptic, i/e symbolically predictive of future events, thus states the Daily Bible, and difficult to interpret. Lets see what we can learn today. The first story or vision, is of the dry bones in a valley. Gods asks Ezekiel “Son of man, can these bones live?” To which Ezekiel replies “Sovereign LORD, you alone know.” GOOD ANSWER God breathed life into them and they came to life and stood up on their feet—a vast army. This doesnt seem too hard to understand. God is saying he is going to unite his chosen people. From this story, a song was written and many groups have sung it over the years. Here are a few links if you care to listen. Some are serious and some inject a little humor into their performance. youtube/watch?v=pYb8Wm6-QfA youtube/watch?v=5itpOq31sxQ youtube/watch?v=3LJGcscDMaY youtube/watch?v=9swztI5m0k0 While you are tapping your toes, lets consider the second vision, that of connecting 2 sticks. Once again teaching the concept of a united holy people. I will take the Israelites out of the nations where they have gone. I will gather them from all around and bring them back into their own land. 22 I will make them one nation in the land, on the mountains of Israel. Ezekiel goes on speaking for God, 24 “‘My servant David will be king over them, and they will all have one shepherd. 26 I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be an everlasting covenant. I will be their God, and they will be my people. Ok, hang on a minute. I think David is dead already. Is God going to bring David back to earth to rule again? Checking the Hebrew Bible, it does translate as David. We know this hasnt happened yet since we still live in an imperfect world with no great Jewish country. Is this a messianic prophesy, i/e Jesus from Davids line will come and bring the wonderful future pictured in Ezekiels writing? Yet when Jesus came, what did the people do, did they accept him and follow Gods ways. Of course not, thus an earthly peace never occurred and never will until the 2nd coming of Jesus. From John 10, Jesus is speaking to us, 16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd. This gives us comfort to know that as believing gentiles, we are included in Gods people. Here is a question to ponder. Please share your ideas. We read over and over that God wants other nations( sinners/unbelievers) to know that he is God. 23 . Then the nations will know that I am the LORD, declares the Sovereign LORD. 38 . Then they will know that I am the LORD.” WHY does God want everyone to know he is God??????? youtube/watch?v=mK3WvPZUb7Y
