September 1 marks 74 years since the beginning of the Second World - TopicsExpress

September 1 marks 74 years since the beginning of the Second World War with the joint German-Soviet invasion of Poland, in which the Polish people paid with so much lives the ultimate sacrifice for its defense. Tomorrow, September 2, Labor Day in the US, is also the 68th anniversary of its victorious conclusion: Victory over Japan Day (VJ Day), the very day of the official surrender of the military forces of Imperial Japan to the victorious Allies, with the official ceremony of surrender being done off Tokyo on the USS Missouri. Here in the Philippines, a similar ceremony was done in the province of Ifugao in which the commanding general of all Japanese forces in Southeast Asia, General Tomoyuki Yamashita, surrendered to the combined US and Philippine forces. So many died and wounded in the course of this conflict, both military and civilian. So many acts of heroism happened over the course of the war. It was a great victory indeed over facism and imperialism paid in the blood, sweat and tears of so many of those who fought as part of the victorious Allies in Europe and the Pacific. Eternal glory to all those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom and independence of our free world! Eternal glory to the victors of the Second World War in Europe and the Pacific! Advance Happy Victory over Japan Day! (Requiem for a Soldier and the Mission Begins) (Honor by Hans Zimmer) (Salute)
