Guest: Dr. Manaseri 1. Maka’ala referrals went out to students a. Campus early alert program b. Tells students if their academic standing is not good c. Professors and counselor are notified if student isn’t doing well • It was hard to inform students that they weren’t doing well because many students have changed their phone numbers without changing it on their MYUH d. Purchased Starfish last semester • Asks instructors to provide which students have attended 1st week of the semester e. Will do Maka’ala 5th week of semester too 2. “No Show” List • Data wasn’t very good from last semester • Person in charge was manually inputting students into class so she forgot to drop the students from the class that dropped the class a. Students aren’t allowed to drop their last class online • If student receives a bill, they have to write an appeal to Dr. Manaseri 3. 8th Week- send out surveys to professor a. Student gets informed about performance in class 4. Many campuses are uploading Starfish software a. Representatives from each campus are coming to Leeward for workshops on Starfish b. There will be a publication about Leeward receiving a “Rising Star Award” 5. VSOC a. Veteran’s admin pays to have vet rep. work here at Leeward • Bill and Michael b. Provides more support for Vets c. Still pushing for a Vet Center • Grant is helping to do this • Looking for a vet counselor • Currently space is an issue for a center d. Perhaps center will be located at West O’ahu spot e. Classes will be held in E building f. $2million allotted to Leeward to renovate UHWO space 6. Halau a. Has a grant to renovate the Halau 7. Renovations for UHWO space a. Hired someone to estimate repairs • Will cost about $2million 8. OCEWD Buildings will become rail station a. Money from state will probably go to UHWO renovations b. Park and ride station at Pearl Highlands • Perhaps parking permit or structure 9. Department of Labor gave $22Mil to all the Hawaii CCs for Department of Labor office 10. Many requests from high schools to offer early college classes a. High schools have grants to pay for student tuition • Waipahu High is most aggressive b. National early college conference in November • Students can earn associates before they graduate from high school c. Early start program is also happening in Waianae program d. Students who take early start, have better success rate than in college e. Will early start programs become pathways? • Example is “medical pathway” • Hoping to get to that point, but we’ll have to wait a bit 11. Professors not using Laulima a. Hard to schedule meetings unless you talk to them personally • That’s why we have Starfish • Date will be added to their calendar too 12. Out to Lunch Program a. Talk to Tommy Lynn about student price b. Look at Student Success mini-grant 13. Student Success a. Conference in Hawaii b. Take your professor to lunch program from University of SC • Students can take their professor out for lunch • Lunch will be paid for c. John Gardner will do a webinar on Oct. 14th at 2:00p.m. • Students and faculty will be invited to come • Will be held in the theatre 14. Team Care a. Sept. 25th- program in GT 105 on cyber safety b. Early in October there will be a relationship workshop c. Nov. 6th- is suicide prevention workshop 15. Better signage on campus a. Is there a way the paper signage can be switched to some kind of plaque or something 16. Showers a. We were told about the theatre ones b. Mark Lane told us that the Ed. When Raymond and Amanda met with Mark Lane a. You can get fined for not using DSA when smoking b. Asked Mark Lane if it’s possible to get a HPD to give tickets on campus c. Which route should we take? 1. Either go completely smoke free 2. Or only have students smoke in DSA locations We are all in agreement with moving with the DSA 2. E-Cigarettes a. We will make a sign for the Lounge • We’ll have to meet with Lexer • Tabled for next week b. E-Cigs can be labeled as a distraction B. October Tabling Ideas a. ACUI Funding Approval • 6 of us will be able to attend for 3 days • 1 will be able to attend 2 days a. Raymond couldn’t find any other hotel surrounding the Hilton that were cheaper b. Hotel- $205 per night c.
