September 3, 2013 To: The Lehman College Community From: Fausto Ramirez, Assistant Director of Public Safety Subject: Public Safety Alert and Safety Tip ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On Wednesday, August 28, 2013, between the hours of 7:00pm - 7:40pm, there was an attempted robbery of an iPhone from a Lehman Student while walking to the train station near the Jerome Ave and Kingsbridge Ave Armory. Fortunately the student was unharmed during the confrontation and retained possession of the phone. The student also reported that the perpetrator was standing at the corner of Walton HS and came up from behind and tried to snatch the phone. The perpetrator was described as: male Hispanic, approximately 5’5”-5’6”, brown hair, slim build wearing blue jeans and no shirt. Public Safety notified the 52nd Pct. of the incident and requested increased patrols of area. Here are a few safety precautions to follow while walking to and from campus: Students, Faculty and Staff should avoid areas that are isolated or not well lit. Always be aware of your surroundings. Try not to distract yourself by being on the cell phone, I-pod or any other electronic device. Travel in groups whenever possible. Devise a “buddy system” to look out for each other. The “buddy system” isn’t just for students. Students, Faculty and Staff may request a Public Safety escort if they feel unsafe; whether walking across campus or to or from campus parking lots. To request a Public Safety escort dial x8228, x7777 or 718-960-8228 from an off campus phone. Remember, any individuals who are behaving suspiciously should be immediately reported to Public Safety. Thank you for your cooperation.
