Serious fencing specific question: With our A, B, C, D, E, U - TopicsExpress

Serious fencing specific question: With our A, B, C, D, E, U ranking system, why dont we include a sub-category of what level tournament the ranking was earned? For example, someone making a top-8 at a Div I national tournament would have the highest possible ranking that could only be earned there. So theyd be a A14 (Division 1). A Y12 fencer who earns a A at a Y12 would be an A14 (Under12) to reflect that they earned it at a younger category. The highest level of competition where you earned a ranking would be your sub-category. So, yes, if a 12 year old made top-8 at a Div 1, they would be a A14 (Div 1). Wouldnt this make those rankings a lot more valid? Someone who earned a B at a national Div 1 is probably better than 90% of the As out there earned at local competitions. I know there are a million subsets to consider but seems like generally thinking through this additional layer would make our system a bit more accurate and still keep us with the thing people are familiar with in fencing. Thoughts?
