Seriously, anyone who thinks the cane stops inappropriate behaviour either never got caned or whimped out real early. I started getting rulers broken over my hands and elsewhere in year 4 and the so called discipline didnt stop till the day I left school in year 11. At no point did it make me think I would change my behaviour, it only made me angrier and stronger. Once a child loses their fear of corporal punishment, what do you do next? Its a stupid idea that was ineffective in the past and will be in the future. It only works on kids who already behave themselves. The cane only benefits sadistic arseholes who get their jollies by inflicting pain on kids. Touch my kids or grandkids with an implement and I will come for you. And I will stand between any of my students and any weak arsed teacher who tries to cane them.
