Seven years ago, Mary Ann Snieckus informed me my spirit animal was a butterfly. And I still hold that to this day. I roomed with her in Ghana when a troop of inspirational teachers and I went to a Liberian refugee camp. Even though there was a 30 year age difference between Mary Ann and myself, we acted more like college roommates. Sometimes, we would sneak out of our room at night to hang out and drink with the locals. We’d shoot footage all day and then we would stay up all night talking about literally everything or just absolutely nothing. I could be even be silly with her and we’d laugh about how my welted mosquito bite looked like the continent of Africa. Mary Ann passed on two years ago today. Just to know her is to have loved her. Thank you, Mary Ann- for the wonderful memories you have given me during our time in Ghana. We had such a blast. Even during those early mornings we shot sunrise time lapses that had nothing to do with anything— we just did it because we wanted to.
