Several years ago on my blog, I posted this: (I think Ive put it on FB too before.) When a little baby is born into the world, his parents time is taken up mostly in his physical needs. He is constantly needing their time in many little ways and his spiritual needs seem to be summed up in simply giving him lots of affection, during this time when his physical needs seem to consume so much of their time. There is a time though, when the child grows and the physical need diminishes somewhat and the spiritual need increases. Many parents seem to be stuck here in the physical need syndrome, and may completely neglect the spiritual training of their children. What a tragedy and how sad that is! Here is one responder who disagreed: (I felt so sorry for him, but it sounded unreal to me, the way he worded it.) A Comment: (copied exactly and name omitted for his privacy) can you at all define what is spirtual needs?? i have no idea why people think we NEED to have any sort of religion or spiritual guidance at such a young and impressionable age.. let children grow and develop their own thoughts and desire on the nature of this world and their place in it.. we tend to force our views on our children and therefore directly affect what they will tend to believe on this quite personal decision later in life. My response: My Comment: Well, if we do that they will not be trained up in the way they should go, as our Creator commanded us. It is the worst form of child abuse to let a child go their own way. If you would like Scripture from Gods word on this, let me know. I have them. Thanks so much for responding. Have a wonderful rest of the day. And then another comment: Great blog you have here. I totally agree with you. My girls are 3 years old and 4 months old. I feel I have a responsibility to teach about God and all that He has done for us. I too believe if we train them the way they should go, they will not depart from it. The other day my oldest started singing Oh how I love Jesus, it brought tears to my eyes. She had heard me singing around the house and picked up on it. What a blessing to see your kids learning about our God.
