Severe Weather Warning IDN28500 Severe Weather Warning for heavy rainfall for people in the Illawarra, South Coast, Southern Tablelands and Snowy Mountains forecast districts Issued at 10:52 am EDT on Saturday 6 December 2014. HEAVY RAIN OVER SOUTH COAST AND ADJACENT AREAS. Weather Situation A broad low pressure trough lies through New South Wales. A smaller scale low pressure system is expected to develop near southern parts of the Illawarra or South Coast within this trough, with a moist atmosphere expected to produce heavy rainfall near and south of the developing low. Thunderstorms and heavy showers which may lead to FLASH FLOODING are forecast for the South Coast forecast district and parts of the Illawarra, Southern Tablelands and Snowy Mountains forecast districts. 35mm of rain in 30 minutes to 10:40am observed at Currajong near Jervis Bay. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: Dont drive, ride or walk through flood water. Keep clear of creeks and storm drains. If you are trapped by flash flooding, seek refuge in the highest available place and ring 000 if you need rescue. For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500. The next warning will be issued by 5:00 pm EDT Saturday.
