Sewri hospital starts campaign to bring down TB cases: To keep tuberculosis at bay, all one has to do is have a good diet and boost immunity, say city doctors. After a sharp rise in the number of TB cases recorded in the city, Sewri TB hospital recently started a campaign across Mumbai, putting special focus on TB-prone areas Whats the campaign all about? Titled May I Help You, the campaign advises people on how to improve immunity. As part of the initiative, people were also told what kind of diet they must follow and what precautions should they take to avoid contracting the disease. Which areas does it focus on? Chief medical cfficer, Sewri TB Hospital, Dr Lalit Anande said, Emphasis is on TB-prone areas, including Kurla, Govandi and Mankhurd. We are talking to people, advising them about the simple ways in which they can avoid the infection and how they can boost their immunity. Whats boosts immunity best, as per docs? Four eggs, four bananas and one lemon daily is the simplest diet one can adopt to increase their immunity. People should also get sufficient Vitamin D by exposing themselves to the early morning sun, added Anande. Why is this campaign important for Mumbai? The city, due to its complexities, population density, and slums, sees a higher prevalence of TB infection and cases. Currently, the city has more than 30,000 cases of drug-sensitive TB and more than 6,000 of drug-resistant TB.
