Sgt H John in Lancaster LL684 was my Mums sister (Auntie Sally)s husband. They had been childhood sweethearts and had only been married 6 weeks I believe. He had been training as a pilot at RAF Fairwood Common whilst working at Tir John Power Station in the office in the day. One day when he got to his desk someone had left 4 white feathers on his desk, basically accusing him of being a coward, despite him training to fly. He went straight and signed up but the only place he could get was as a tailgunner. When he told his Dad, his Dad told him he had signed his own death warrrant. He only had 2 operational flights before being killed. I really hope the person who left the feathers was pleased with themselves.
