Shake the Poet, the Brooklyn-born, Jersey native began writing poetry at age 12. His addictions to the Dictionary and Hip Hop drew his attention and his pen to the notepad. In college he was nicknamed “The Black Shakespeare” by a close friend whom enjoyed listening to Shake read and recite his work. After 9-11 Shake enlisted into the United States Army and was then stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. In 2003, Shake then found a home in the poetry scene at “Under One Roof”, an African-American Bookstore and Culture Shop in Killeen, Texas. He then spent the next 4 years honing his skills and talents at local poetry slams and open mic venues throughout Central Texas. In 2007 Shake became the 1st ever Killeen Poetry Slam Grand Champion and the team went on to become ranked 2nd in the Nation at the 2007 National Poetry Slam. Since then Shake has published a book of poetry entitled, “Can words Birth Voices… If No one Is Listening”, which is available on Amazon, Authorhouse and Barnes & Noble as well as an album entitled, “For Your Thighs Only” which is available on sites such as Apple iTunes and CDBaby. Shake has been repeatedly forced away from the poetry scene in order to serve his country and now that he has returned home once again, he is in the Lab currently working on new projects, books, music and falling deeper in love with the art of expression and rhyme.
