Sharing the Writeup by the Boyce Thompson Arboretum in Superior, Arizona on Highway 60 -- Twice the Music, Twice The Blessings - Celebrate Your New Year Jan 1 & 2 With Arvel Bird Predictions for rain and colder temperatures bring a surprise bonus this week at Boyce Thompson Arboretum, where a special New Years Day concert has been moved indoors -- and also quadrupled to two concerts both of two days in order to accommodate crowds in a smaller and more intimate performance space. Concerts will be offered Thursday and Friday at Noon, and again at 3:00pm. Concert-goers with lastnames starting from A-L are asked to attend the 12:00 concerts, while those with lastnames M-Z attend the 3:00 shows in order to divide crowds evenly as possible, and accommodate everyone for special days of music and blessings to kick-off the New Year. Arvel Bird is a unique and inspiring musician who blends flute with Celtic fiddle. Curious to see how a recording artist with roots in both Paiute culture and Celtic music unites the two styles? Check out this 20-minute film about Arvel in concert at BTA https://youtube/watch?v=po-xEDbW0eI Or this abbreviated version (2.5 minutes) https://youtube/watch?v=LZFnEPwvYdk Arboretum hours are 8am-5pm in January; concerts Thursday and Friday start at 12 Noon when Arvel will share a Native American style New Years blessing to begin 2015, then a concert indoors at the historic Smith Building, performing new music and fan favorites from CD release including Animal Totems, Tribal Music Suite and Titanic Centennial. Blessings and concerts repeat at 3:00, in order to accommodate crowds in a 50-seat room. Arvels performance is co-sponsored by the Superstition Area Land Trust (azsalt.org); visitors will have a chance to meet volunteers from SALT and learn more about the organization and its efforts to preserve the Sonoran Desert. Arvel Bird spent a decade playing fiddle for country legends including Glen Campbell, Loretta Lynn and Louise Mandrell; now based in Nashville, hes chosen life on the road to connect with audiences the old-fashioned way -- live -- where his visceral performances and high-energy Celtic-Jazz fiddle ignite concert venues, symphony halls and festivals. Music is free if youre a BTA annual member or if you have an Arizona State Parks yearly-pass; included with the $10 daily admission for those who dont.
