Sheldon Patinkin passed away this morning. About a year ago, Sheldon invited me into his home to do my podcast. In the 7 years since I graduated from Columbia College, I would meet him at The Bagel for lunch. It was a tradition. I had never seen his home until this meeting. Even though he was in obvious back pain, he didnt show it or draw any attention to it. He was brutally honest with me about his life in theater, the Second City, and his life in Chicago. I felt honored to be let into his life and his past. Before I left he said, lets do this again the next time youre in town. That was the last time I saw him. Sheldon was more of a mentor to me than my own grandfather and the advice he gave me made me a better person than I thought I could be. Here is the conversation he and I had a year ago.
