Sheldon, the skunk, update When I went to change his bedding - TopicsExpress

Sheldon, the skunk, update When I went to change his bedding and give him his shot this morning, he woke up and was fully alert. I went ahead with his shot and, knowing what I was doing, he allowed it. (The other mornings, I sort of snuck it in the morning routine while he slept through the whole thing.) He moved from one side to the other to help with the bedding change too. I knew that he knew I was helping.....but had no idea he was this aware..... He is allowing me to do the things that I need to do. Wow! What a good baby! He drank all of his water last night (a first) and licked his plate clean. I hadnt left much food in there since its pretty liquid and I didnt want him lying in it and then having issues because of all the yucky food in his fur. So he didnt get a lot....but its gone and hes not wearing it!! So I know it went in! I left more food this morning for him. I also turned off the heating pad today. I think he is well enough now to be without it. I have to run out for a little bit today so Im hoping that he will eat more, drink more and sound better later. He still sounds bad when he breathes, but Im leaning more and more towards thinking that its an infection in the nose and mouth area. If he had a deadly illness, I would not be seeing any improvement.....so Im feeling a bit better every day about his chances of survival. Whether he can be released or not is a WHOLE other situation that will be dealt with MUCH later in this process. He still acts very much like a discarded pet. (My heart breaks for him if this is what happened to him...but it definitely would explain why he stayed out in the open in an area where humans were. He may have been hoping to find his people there....) Whatever the case, we will think carefully about what he needs and will make a decision based on what is best for HIM when that time comes.
