Shipmate News 15 May 2014 It’s boat show time With the boat show season proper about to get underway with Sanctuary Cove next week we’ve got quite a bit in this edition about what to expect if you’re heading to the show. Of course at the same time, the third Riviera Festival of Boating is on and that’s taking place just a 20 minute ferry ride from Sanctuary Cove, up the Coomera River, and a bit about that in this edition too. In other news, we’ve got details of the merger of the Boating Industry Associations of New South Wales and South Australia, details of a new berthing exchange program on the eastern seaboard and information regarding the impending announcement of the Australian Marine Export and Superyacht Awards. Also, as is usual leading up to the start of the boat show season, information on a raft of new and innovative products and news of a number of new model launches. Earlier this month we had two major boating incidents in Victoria and we have details of both in this edition. In the first, a boat sank on Port Phillip after a collision during a yacht race and another incident where a fishing boat capsized 3 miles off Portland. Thankfully in both cases all were rescued but, it brings home the point that we need to be vigilant and prepared at all times while out on the water. We’ve been keeping ourselves busy at Shipmate, as you may be aware we regularly post news on our website and we’re getting really good feedback about the videos on the website. If you haven’t visited recently make sure you do so soon at shipmate.au. Our Facebook page is going great guns too, you’ll find that at facebook/shipmatemarinedirectory make sure you visit and ‘Like’ us there. That’s about it from me, I’m frantically trying to clear the decks here before heading up to see what’s new at Sanctuary Cove, look forward to seeing you there. Cheers, see you out on the water John Zammit
