Ships participating in Dawn Blitz in formation. PACIFIC OCEAN (June 12, 2013) The Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force (JMSDF) tank landing ship JS Shimokita (LST 4002), the guided-missile destroyer JS Atago (DDG 177) and the helicopter destroyer JS Hyuga (DDH 181) are underway with the amphibious assault ship USS Boxer (LHD 4), amphibious transport dock ship USS New Orleans (LPD 18), amphibious dock landing ship USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49) and a pair of landing craft air cushion assault craft, one from JMSDF and one from the Boxer Amphibious Ready Group. The ships are participating in Dawn Blitz, a scenario-driven exercise led by U.S. 3rd Fleet and I Marine Expeditionary Force.
