Shocking revelations There is growing and shocking evidence that the minority government of Guyana intends in try disgraced late US President Richard Nixon’s tactics of tax audits to deal with those perceived enemies in the press. The Independent Kaieteur News is in receipt of what appears to an email that indicates the Tax Chief, the Commissioner General of the Guyana Revenue Authority, wants to bring the paper to its knees using a tax audit. In the correspondence purporting to emanate from the Tax Chief’s Office, Kaieteur News’ tax information is discussed. The correspondent claims he was in touch with the Former President Bharat Jagdeo and indicated that he the commissioner general believes the information would be treated with the utmost confidentiality by the former president. Jagdeo advised according to the correspondence that the impending major audit of the Kaieteur News be attributed to recent articles printed about the Tax Chief by the newspaper. In the document, the Commissioner General also referred to Jagdeo and himself being in what he called “this thing together”. The emails were sent on Monday September 15th from the personal email account of the Commissioner General. Kaieteur News has vehemently protested the impropriety of the action taken by Sattaur claiming that Jagdeo is now a private citizen and these confidential tax matters ought not to be shared with him. Kaieteur News is also convinced that any proposed audit is intended to shut the Newspaper down or at least muzzle it. The Commissioner General on the other hand is contending that he will take legal action against Kaieteur News and he is free to act under the Tax Regulations in the way he did youtube/watch?v=7lqosPY0GSM
