Shouldnt the bar exam include ethics? We are mass producing - TopicsExpress

Shouldnt the bar exam include ethics? We are mass producing lawyers with no sense of ethics and social responsibility. That is dangerous. Better with few lawyers who are ethical than with many lawyers who would lie to their teeth and manipulate people to profit and advance their own selfish ends. Especially in this country, central to the ills of our politics and governance is how the law profession is practiced and the system within which it operates. If only lawyers give dignity to their chosen field, they would be moving heaven and earth to reform the justice system and culture that governs their profession. At it is now, given the system, the norm is that either lawyers are apathetic and detached from what justice truly means, are already part of the system benefitting from the long period of time that it takes for justice to be served in this country or are themselves perpetuators of injustices. And yet, without the system being reformed or without convincing efforts being undertaken by lawyers themselves, we are producing thousands of them every year--being on a celebratory mood at that! We are not only multiplying our problem, we are paving the way for souls to be lost and cause the pain and suffering of many. Something. Has. To. Be. Done. And it starts in law education.
