Shri Mervin Alexander, Postmaster General, Chennai City Region, Department of Posts, India, today released a Permanent Pictorial Cancellation featuring the logo of the Christian Medical College Vellore. We are grateful to the Department of Posts for this honour to mark Founders Day, 9th December 2014, and in recognition of the life and work of Dr. Ida Sophia Scudder. The PPC will be used from now on to cancel (frank) all outgoing mail through the Post Office located inside the main hospital campus. Chief Guest Mr. Mervin Alexander appreciated the institution for its service to the nation at a function in the Norman Auditorium. The Director, General Superintendent, Medical Superintendent and Nursing Superintendent all gave their felicitations and warmly thanked the Department of Posts and the staff of the CMC Hospital Post Office for their valuable services to patients, staff and students down the years. The Dept of Posts previously released a special picture stamp featuring the CMC College Chapel in the year 2000. The special cover shown in the photo below was released by the Department of Posts at a special Philately Exhibition organised by them in January 2012. Copies of this special cover are still available with the Development Office, CMC for collectors.
