Shun political thuggery, NSCDC warns varsity students Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ekiti State Command, Mr. Shem Obafaiye, has called on management of higher institutions in the state to caution their students on the need to resist the lure by politicians to use them as thugs for election purposes. Speaking during a visit to the management of the Ekiti State University (EKSU), the NSCDC Commandant sought the cooperation of the management of institution in the prevention of crimes and other social vices in state. He said that with the governorship election around the corner, it has become imperative to ensure that students of EKSU are not involved as political thugs or participate in electoral violence. Vice-Chancellor, Professor Oladipo Aina, assured the NSCDC Commandant that the current crop of students on campus have been undergoing re-orientation to improve their ethical values and behavioural attitude. Promising that all hands would be on deck to monitor the students before and after the election, the VC explained that the newly sworn in Students Union executive has shown practical commitment to peaceful co-existence within and outside the campus.
