Sign of Victory: TASUED best among all Senator Ibikunle Amosun wrote: OGUN GOVT, TASUED TO ESTABLISH ZOOLOGICAL/BOTANICAL GARDEN SOON In its determination to promote eco-tourism and research in Ogun State, the Ministry of Forestry in collaboration with the state owned tertiary Institution, Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED), Ijagun, Ijebu Ode, has taken a bold step that would engender the establishment of a zoological and Botanical garden. The Ministry had early this year proposed the establishment of the zoological / Botanical garden in its budget. The Garden which would be situated in TASUED is expected to cover 35 hectares of Land at the initial stage and may be expanded with passage of time. Speaking at the preliminary meeting, Commissioner in the Ministry, Engr. Ayo Olubori, said the initiative became imperative in order to diversify the forestry sub-sector especially at a time when the Ministry seemed to be more famous for regulation and utilization of timber, adding that it was also committed to promoting eco-tourism through wildlife conservation. “This project has become necessary at a time when the Ministry seems to be more popular for timber exploitations, regulations and utilizations. Likewise, we are also committed to promoting eco-tourism through research of wildlife conservation and medicinal plant species”, Olubori said. The commissioner pointed out that the initiative was also targeted at making the state a world-acclaimed research hub, create more job opportunities, and promote recreational activities. On her part, the Vice-Chancellor of TASUED, Prof. (Mrs.) Oluwayemisi Obilade, said it was essential to preserve the State legacies for the future generations adding that environmental preservation cannot be pushed to background.
