Signal Shadows on the Southern: Towards the end of steam on BR - TopicsExpress

Signal Shadows on the Southern: Towards the end of steam on BR Southern Region, Battle of Britain class 4-6-2 No.34087 145 Squadron heads for Bournemouth on Englands south coast. No.34087 was built at Eastleigh Works in December 1948 and withdrawn from traffic in July 1967 - a working life of less than 20 years. Sadly, No.34087 is not one of the 20 preserved examples (together with the identicle West Country class SR Light Pacifics). Steam traction on BRs Southern Region finally ended in July 1967. Note the side-ways shadow of the signal (already in the up or off position) seen on the locos tender. More on this class of locos here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SR_West_Country_and_Battle_of_Britain_classes Thanks Nigel. -Phil
