Simmie Cooper Simmie Cooper is the talent behind Cooper Custom Homes. Simmie moved to the United States in 1976, after graduating from high school in Johannesburg, and entered the University of Southern California, majoring in accounting. He graduated in 1981 with a B.A. in Business Administration, and was also qualified as a CPA. However, after a year of working in accounting, he decided to go to work for a builder. With his family in Johannesburg heavily involved in real estate and residential building, Simmie had grown up around the construction industry, and soon decided to pursue a career in home construction. California contractors must meet stringent requirements and be bonded, as well as licensed by the state. Simmie worked as a superintendent for a California builder and completed the three years of experience required, and passed the state board exam to become a licensed contractor
