Simplicity is the key to Progress. Hope our marriages and valimas - TopicsExpress

Simplicity is the key to Progress. Hope our marriages and valimas were lot simpler than what they are now. Even Abdur Rahman bin Awf radhiyallaahu anhu was asked to give one sheep in valima. It is not an obligation to invite everyone you know to the valima. Marriages in the masjids is also not commanded in the Quran or the Sunnah. Marriages may be conducted in an office or a house, while the Wali, Groom and the 2 witnesses are present. Then whats all the hungama out there! People in India go about states and districts in inviting their relatives and friends for months together, spending lakhs of money on the valima; and even the thousands of people attending the valima spend thousands each to travel all the way to attend the valima. BTW, another practice is to let the brides parents spend for valima; thats sheer deviance indeed. It is for the groom to spend on valima. Lets not neglect the Sunnah in our marriages. The more the Ummah goes away from the Sunnah, the more the hardships the Ummah has to bear.
