Since Im losing sleep over it I might as well post my thoughts.. If youve never heard of the app Nextdoor its basically a neighborhood forum where ppl can post anything about whats going on around you in real time, ranging from crime to garage sales. Well tonight a guy posted about a suspicious black male in a hoodie which caught my attention so I read the replies. Several ppl commented about calling the police and one mentioned escorting his lady with a weapon. I chimed in that I happen to live here in Soulard, happen to be black, and happen to wear hoodies. I shared how I hope nobody feels the need to call the cops, grab the hip, or clutch a purse when I walk by on my way to a local bar one night in one of my hoodies and that not every black male wearing a hoodie is a threat. This is how the Fergusons happen. This isnt a rant about racism or injustice, its a post about awareness and perspective. We ALL should take it upon ourselves to move forward in 2015 and live above the stereotypes. Perfect love casts out fear. We gotta do better......
