Since the 4 way stop at Cramer and Ashland seems to be a total - TopicsExpress

Since the 4 way stop at Cramer and Ashland seems to be a total free-for-all, with drivers darting through the intersection with no regard for child safety, traffic laws, common courtesy or common sense I took it upon myself to remind everyone of procedure at a 4-way stop. Section 189.330 of the KRS addresses what to do when turning at an intersection. Part (4) of this section specifically addresses stopping at stop signs. It states that unless directed to do otherwise by a police officer, a driver approaching a stop sign must stop at either a clearly marked stop line or before a crosswalk. If neither is present, the driver must stop as close to the intersection as possible to produce an adequate view of traffic. The driver must then yield to vehicles in the intersection or on the intersecting road close enough to create an immediate hazard to the driver. If the intersection is a four-way stop, the driver on the left must yield to the driver on the right. THE DRIVER ON THE LEFT MUST YIELD TO THE DRIVER ON THE RIGHT. Not, when the person across from you goes, you go. Not, Im only making a right, cant I just GO? Not, Im driving a bigger, fancier vehicle get out of my way. Wake up 10 minutes earlier if the Cramer/Ashland intersection is seemingly unnavigable. Drive a different way. I walk my son to school, and have done so for four years, now. I have witnessed behavior behind the wheel on a number of occasions that make me question the sanity of some of my neighbors. The speed limit is 25 mph. Take an extra second of caution near schools- kids are unpredictable!
