Since the ice bucket challenge has gotten a ton of popularity lately, Id like to let people know about Folding@Home (folding.stanford.edu/) This is arguably the MOST DIRECT way you can aid in the research of these deadly diseases, even more so than direct donations, or dumping ice water on your head. Running this application on your computer performs extremely complex simulations on how protein molecules fold. The data gathered from these simulations is directly used by researchers on the bleeding edge of new developments for cures. It is extremely easy to use and runs in the background. It only uses your computers idle resources to perform its simulations, so it wont slow down your system. You can even request to perform simulations to benefit a particular diseases research. If you want to provide tangible contributions to research for cures of the worlds deadliest diseases, this is the way to go. If anyone wants to try this and isnt computer savy, let me know and ill help you set it up.
