Since you asked for it, here you go, the worst year for the WWE Title, 1999... (Writers Note- Using the days the matches took place. While Mankind winning the title AIRED on Jan. 4, the match took place Dec. 28, so it doesnt count) Jan. 24, 1999- The Rock beats Mankind in an I Quit match at Royal Rumble. Later found that Mankind was unconscious and an audio recording was used. Jan. 26, 1999- Mankind beats The Rock in an Empty Arena match for the title during Halftime Heat during Super Bowl 33 Feb. 15, 1999- Rock wins it back from Mankind AGAIN after Paul Wight chokeslams Mankind during a Ladder Match. (Night before, Rock and Mankind had a Last Man Standing match that ended in a Double CO) Mar. 28, 1999- Steve Austin wins the title at Wrestlemania for the 2nd straight year from The Rock. Mankind counts the pinfall as special ref (Longest title reign of 1999- 56 Days) May 23, 1999- Undertaker beats Austin at Over The Edge (yes, THAT PPV) in screwjob finish with both Vince and Shane as special refs. (Shane fast-counted) Jun. 28, 1999- Steve Austin wins it back from Undertaker Aug. 22, 1999- Mankind wins the belt back at Summerslam in a triple threat match also involving HHH. Jesse Ventura was ref. Aug. 23, 1999- Yup, Mankinds reign lasts 1 day as HHH beats him in a rematch Sept. 14, 1999- Vince McMahon gets pissed at HHH and challenges him to a match. After several interferences, Vince pins HHH and wins the belt. Sept. 20, 1999- Vince vacates the title and makes main event for... Sept. 26, 1999- HHH wins a 6 pack challenge (also including Rock, Big Show, Mankind, Kane, and The British Bulldog) at Unforgiven to become Champion again. Austin was outside enforcer. (Writers Note- Vince Russo and Ed Ferrera sign WCW contracts on October 5th, 1999 and leave WWE immediately. They were responsible for ALL previous title changes in 1999) Nov. 14, 1999- Big Show beats Rock and HHH in triple threat match at Survivor Series. Big Show was replacement for Steve Austin, who was hit by a car during Heat before PPV. Average length of title reign: 28 Days. Nowhere near as bad as WCW 2000, though. the equivalent title change ending with Ortons win would be Punk beating Cena to end Cena WWE Title and continue his at Summerslam 2011, BEFORE Del Rio would cash in.
