Sincerity in Knowledge The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu - TopicsExpress

Sincerity in Knowledge The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Whoever seeks knowledge in order to compete with the scholars, or to debate with the foolish, or to draw people’s attention, Allah will put him into the Fire.” [Mishkaat] A great Alim (scholar) was asked to speak on the occasion of the graduation of a class from a Dars-e-Nizami (classical Islamic learning) program. One of the Ulema who happened to a critic of the speaker and his school of thought had also been invited to the graduation ceremony and was present on this occasion when the Alim was delivering a particularly impressive discourse. However, as soon as he spotted his critic in the audience, the Alim cut his speech in mid-sentence and sat down. Later, a scholar who was on informal terms with the Alim questioned what he had done. “That was the time that you needed most to speak,” he said, for it would have proven his worthiness and that of his school of thought. The Alim replied, “That is exactly what crossed my mind, and that is precisely why I stopped speaking, for it would then only have been for the display of knowledge.” Invest your time in Istighfaar “To ALLAH we belong and to ALLAH we return (2:156)”
