Singapore Cup draw pits Global, DPMM Brunei June 6, 2013 Global will face S.League side Brunei DPMM in the quarterfinals of the Singapore Cup in July. The reigning UFL champions advanced to the last eight after a 2-0 win over Warriors FC last Saturday at the Choa Chu Kang Stadium. The Filipino side will be facing a team that with a rich winning tradition. Prior to playing in the S.League, DPMM participated in the Brunei Premier League in early 2000s, notching the league title on two occasions before moving to Malaysia where they spent two seasons in the top tier Malaysian Super League. They joined the S.League in the 2009 season, winning the Singapore League Cup in the process but had to sit out for twoyears following a FIFA ban imposed on Brunei. They returned in the S.League in 2012, finishing second behind winners Tampines Rovers, before adding a second Singapore League Cup in the process. Brunei DPMM is led by Croatian coach Vjeran Simunic, who is also handling the Brunei national team. Global boss Dan Palami said he hopes to have the side fresh for the clash against DPMM on July 24 and 27. "We have more than a month to prepare. First, after the season we’ll give our players a deserved rest, it’s been physically and mentally exhausting," said Palami. ~J.E.~
