Singapore has been free from rabies since 1953 but as the disease - TopicsExpress

Singapore has been free from rabies since 1953 but as the disease is endemic in the region, it is critical to maintain vigilance against rabies. AVA has measures (e.g. stringent import controls) in place to keep rabies at bay and recently, we conducted our first emergency preparedness exercise to test operational readiness to respond to a rabies outbreak. Besides stringent import controls, AVA also works closely with border control agencies, such as Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA), to safeguard Singapore from illegal imports of animals. On 9 September, ICA detected a case of illegal import of 13 puppies at Woodlands Checkpoint. Read more about the emergency preparedness exercise and the illegal import here. bit.ly/1mffsH5
