Sinquetim-Benaulim bridge: Benaulim MLA orders stoppage of work navhindtimes.in/?p=56986SINQUETIM: Benaulim MLA Caetano Silva, on Thursday, ordered stopping of the work of the controversial Sinquetim-Benaulim bridge over alleged deviation from the revised construction plan which has been approved. The MLA climbed the under-construction bridge and asked the contractor to stop the work of casting a concrete slab as he felt that the contractor was trying to go ahead with a full seven meter-wide bridge. Silva also tried to call the principle chief engineer J S S Rego over the revised plan of the bridge but to no avail. He directed the contractor not to proceed with casting the concrete slab as the matter would be discussed with the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar. Later speaking to reporters, after coming down from the under-construction bridge, he said that as per the approved revised plan the bridge is designed with a partition in the middle and it was discussed in the presence of the Chief Minister and the principle chief engineer, however he said that the contractor was planning to cast one single slab which is not acceptable. He said that the partitioned section will be used to install benches and added that he has asked the contractor to stop the work of casting the slab as he would take up the matter with the Chief Minister and the principle chief engineer. He also warned the PWD not to play games and added that double standards will not be tolerated with regard to the Benaulim-Sinquetim bridge.
