*Six Months of Anticipation Then Too Much Salt* The Messenger - TopicsExpress

*Six Months of Anticipation Then Too Much Salt* The Messenger of Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “The most perfect in Emaan among the Mumineen are those with the best character and the best among you are those whose character with their wives is best.” [Mishkaat] A poor man saved for six months to be able to afford a chicken for a meal. For six long months he tolerated the taste of lentils in restless anticipation of the tasty chicken. But when his wife prepared the meal she accidentally added too much salt to it. On tasting the salty chicken he said nothing to his wife but silently carried on eating. He spoke to Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) instead. He said: “O Allah! If my daughter happened to add excessive salt to a meal I would want my son-in-law to overlook it and forgive her. I would not want him to scold the one who is the light of my life and a piece of my heart. My wife is after all also the light of somebody’s life and a piece of his heart. She is also the daughter of loving parents and above all, she is Your bondwoman. Solely for Your pleasure do I overlook and forgive her error.” After this man died a very pious person saw him in a dream and asked him how Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) had dealt with him. He replied: “Allah ta’ala began enumerating my sins upon which I thought myself destined for Jahannum. Eventually Allah ta’ala said to me, ‘Go, I have forgiven you for your having forgiven this one fault of My bondwoman. You did not resort to beating her, swearing at or insulting her. The day My bondwoman added extra salt you forgave her. I lieu of this I forgive you today.’”
