Skill Sets for my Children When people query me about our Homeschooling journey, they are sometimes shocked that we dont have a syllabus per se and that we hardly do any academic stuff. There is no book to follow (unless the kids find it themselves out of interest and do it themselves) and there is no guide about what we will be covering in any set day or week. Yes, we are THAT free and easy...... What is important to me is that within their Homeschooling journey, they make good decisions on their body. That means eating well and exercise, hygiene, knowing body boundaries. I want them to learn about prudent money management, conflict resolution, selling snow to Eskimos (yes, its a skill!), effective communication, that includes being articulate, writing well (working hard on this), and learning to listen. Like really listen. I want them to care for people and animals, nature and the environment, learn Math and Science and many languages to be Citizens of the World. I want them to be able to express themselves confidently and creatively, have a minimalist attitude towards commercialism, learn and LIVE in other cultures so they really know the meaning of poor, learn life skills such as sewing and cooking, planting and hosting, knowing their manners automatically, be updated with technology and computers, know how to analyse and solve problems, and last but not least, just loving life to the fullest and loving and helping people in general. Do we need school for that? You tell me.
