Small fishing boats. Going about their daily activities. Seemingly harmless. But when laden with explosives or used to mount terrorist attacks, the destruction they wreck can be devastating. The 2008 Mumbai terror attacks showed us how such threats can arise from the sea. For the Navy, it is critical for us to be able to discern small boat threats and stop them before any harm is done. And this was one of the scenarios exercised in this year’s Ex APEX, where our patrol vessel and one of Police Coast Guard’s patrol craft successfully intercepted a simulated small boat threat. Our patrol vessels play a vital role in supporting our Maritime Security Task Force to combat increasingly complex maritime security threats and challenges. And they do so with our maritime partners, on a daily basis. Bravo Zulu to the Vanguards of our seas.
