Smithville is cooling off without it having to rain to do it! Its - TopicsExpress

Smithville is cooling off without it having to rain to do it! Its so good to see farmers back in the fields harvesting. When I was growing up in Smithville we had hogs; lots of hogs, and pigs. Along with those came chores. Thats just the way it was; never hurt us one bit; made us stink sometimes; had to wear boots a lot, but all in all it was good for us boys. Down the road a couple hundred yards was the Rue family. The eighth from the oldest (I believe it was the eighth), Tony was over one day and I dont know if he thought it was fun or not, he wanted to help water the hogs. We had these troughs and all we had to do was carry water and fill them; and, when we did here come the hogs. Well, this day in particular I (now consider I was just a boy myself) decided to teach Tony a lesson. In order to get the water from the spigot to the trough we had to carry it in buckets and yes, we had to step over an electric fence. For me it wasnt too much of a chore to raise the bucket high and of course my rubber boots sort of protected my feet. Well, that day Tony stopped at the fence and when I asked him was was wrong he told me he couldnt get the bucket over the fence. I assured him that as long as he had water in the bucket the electric fence posed no shock. He trusted me; I lied; Tony got a really good shock; he learned a lesson. The trouble is he learned two lessons; one, water doesnt shield you from getting shocked and two; I told him a lie. I was a kid, it was a joke, but he got the brunt of the prank. Ive always remembered that and Ive always been reminded I shouldnt have done that. I dont know if I ever told Tony I was sorry or not, but I do know its too late; Tony slipped out into eternity this week. Thirteen children; great neighbors; and now there are eleven; eleven grieving over the loss. Keep the Rue family in your prayers. There is a place of comfort sweet, near to the heart of God; a place where we our Savior meet, near to the heart of God. O Jesus, blest Redeemer, sent from the heart of God, hold us, who wait before Thee, near to the heart of God.
