Snyder calls members front-line stories of school cuts hogwash Increased class sizes, fewer staff, dwindling supply budgets, program cuts-every day you, your students and their parents feel the effects of Gov. Snyders $1 billion cut to education in 2011 so corporate special interests could enjoy a $1.8 billion tax cut. Gov. Snyder claims that our members are flat-out lying about the impact of his education cuts. He calls your front-line stories about the effects of the $1 billion cuts, Hogwash! We cant let Snyder rewrite history. In 2011-his first year in office, he said, public school cuts will be difficult, but in 2014-an election year-he denies ever making those cuts. The truth has to come from you. You need to tell everyone you talk to what youre seeing in your classrooms, your school buildings and around your district every day. You have the evidence you need to back up your claims. Theres the data from the Michigan Department of Education on kidsnotceos showing the four-year losses to K-12, community college and university budgets. Theres theKidsNotCEOs video explaining how Snyders cuts are forcing kids and parents to take drastic measures to pay for music, sports and arts programs in schools. And, finally, there are facts contained in the Senate Fiscal Agency memo to prove your point. Dont let Snyders version of history repeat itself for the next four years. Public education cant afford it. Support Mark Schauer and any other pro-education candidates on Nov. 4! Support public education.
