So I decided to browse as many of the major newspaper websites as possible, and it seems to confirm what I think is the main issue I have with online news and why I stubbornly still buy hard copies. The layout of most online main pages is terrible - a clustercrap of photos, brief headlines, synopses that barely say much and ads that all look like theyre just thrown out there with little organization. The New York Times may be the most organized. USA Today looks like the worst, but the sad news is my two local papers, the Dallas Morning News and Star-Telegram, are almost as bad. I dont mean to blow my own horn, but look at the layout I chose for rowdytimedfw for comparison. The stories are front and center and easily readable, even on the main page. Supplementary material (for now, league standings for the most part) is off to the side, and I try to keep the ads of to the other side or elsewhere where they hopefully provide as little interference as possible. I was looking for what was closest to an actual newspaper when I chose the layout format. My content still leaves much to be desired on this thing, I know, but I hope at least the layout works. Of course, maybe Im just sounding like an old guy. Is there anyone out there that actually likes the way USA Today, the LA Times or the Dallas Morning News lay out their web main pages?
