So I havent really been updating this page with any training notes, and Ive decided that I miss it! Originally the plan was just to update throughout his growth and color change, but I think Ill still take training notes, just for my own records. I think itll be fun to go back and be able to see progress. Last night at rally class Quinn was definitely off. There were treats all over the floor, and dogs all around the room, and he was much more interested in scavenging than he was in heeling. .. not that I can blame him really, there were hot dogs and all sorts of great stuff! I also forgot my clicker and borrowed one that didnt have a wristband, so he was working for a yes, and we only got one chance to try the course, so we didnt really get to practice on it. Actually, I lied. I got about 30 seconds in, and came back to the start for a do-over. Ive been working hard on using fewer treats, but this time I got permission to go back to using more. . .Get out the liver and jerky! Its amazing what meat can do for a dogs brain! Off we went again, and this time, he remembered I was there! We did much better with focusing. I didnt even lose my balance and step on him, we didnt skip any signs, and for the most part did ok! We still definitely need to work on heeling, and not swinging his butt into far-out places on halts. . . were working with platforms, and hopefully that will make a difference. Lesson learned from last night? Do-overs are a good thing, sometimes you just need more treats, and we sure have a lot to work on (although I already knew that). . . and that doesnt even include the jumping all over the trainer after class! I sure do enjoy working with him.
