So I keep seeing this speech shared, and it saddens me that so many listen to this and believe that this (alone) is such wonderful advice. While this type of advice is all warm and fuzzy and makes you feel good, the simple fact is that breeds a mentality that is so prevalent in my generation that you have a bunch of people who believe practicality is a four letter word. Might be a hint as to why my generation has such a terrible employment track record and are sitting at mom and dads house until they are in their 30s waiting for their big break. And please, dont say the economy. I have two children and have been out of my parents’ house since 20 all while finishing my degree and attaining a job right after I graduated. So its not impossible, its not like Im a special case. Im not saying dont try and accomplish what you want to do, what I am saying is that you have to be able to balance those desires with a practical mindset, establishing fail safes and the like. Furthermore, Im not saying Carrey gave a bad speech as I did not listen to the whole speech. But I think its interesting that this one minute segment is getting shared all over the place, and hailed as this revelatory idea. It isnt. This ideology is everywhere in my generation and it is not balanced with a practical mindset.
