So I lost my temper this morning...along with a little bit of my voice. The treatment I received for Heritage Bank in Manila, Ar, is beyond unacceptable! Since moving to Leachville over the week, I didnt know that there was a bank there in Leachville that I could go and get money out this morning. So I grab the kids and head towards Manila to use the bank I always use to get money out of my account due to me having a Credit Union which obviously doesnt have a branch close to me for me to do things such as these. Once upon a time, which was not long ago because we just moved to Manila in February, their ATM would allow you to just stick your card into the slot and take it right back out after it read your card...recently theyve changed. You now have to stick your card in, it swallows it and then it is returned back to you when the transaction is complete. Now, I understand this is an awesome for people who potentially could get their card stolen, and it gives the bank the authority to protect their members, BUT that wasnt the case at all in this matter. Because I have a different bank. As I wait for my card to come out, nothing. I banged and smacked the machine in hopes of it malfunctioning, the way it did when he TOOK & KEPT my card, and giving me my card back. Im on E and now have to drive all the way back to Leachville to get ready for work. No card to go by the gas station to get gas now, thanks Heritage, a lot!!! Luckily my husband is my hero and had plenty of money in his checking so I use that account to put gas in my truck. Meanwhile...Ive calmed down realizing, HEY, its quite alright! Heritage Bank opens at 8:30 and on my way to work I can just swing back through and get them to get it out for me. BOY WAS I WRONG! After explaining the situation to my husband, who was already in Manila, he tells me that he will drop by himself and see if he can get it. He calls to inform me that I will have to be the one to go up there and get it and show my ID. Not a problem, BUT moments went by and I heard some talking from the lady but couldnt make out what she was saying... YA READY FOR THIS???????? The lady was informing my husband that I will not be able to get my card due to their policy. Their policy-If the ATM takes anybodys debit card, and the debit card does not belong to Heritage Bank? Their policy is they have to shred them. WHAT???? ARE YOU KIDDING ME???????? Even though I had every proof in the world that it was MY CARD!!!! They tell me that they have to shred it. MY PROPERTY!!!! When THEIR ATM TOOK IT!!!! Which was not my fault!!!!!!! Although I will not deny the fact that I was INFURIATED and used a few choice words and anger towards the SNOTTY customer service I received, I still cant believe that due to THEIR MACHINE taking MY CARD they have to shred it!!??? When I mean shred it, I dont mean the ATM does it, I mean they physically take the card out of the machine and shred it themselves without giving the person any opportunity at all to rightfully claim it. Regardless of the uproar a customer may cause. When I used a few choice words over the phone with the lady, it was only a 15 minute time frame before I actually arrived at the bank to handle it myself and use more choice words. Within that 15 minute time frame...(only 2 people working today at the bank) they had went and unlocked the ATM and got my card and then shredded it. KNOWING that I was on my way TO THE BANK because I informed the lady on the phone I would be coming up there. I could be wrong but never in my life have I heard such policy. AND if there is a possibility of an ATM taking your card due to either malfunction or they dont recognize the card or whatever the case may be....why not have some kind of sign posted that has the information on it or some kind of warning? It would give people the option to use the ATM at their own risk. Nothing posted at all. What would happen if someone from out of town only had their debit card and went to get money out with the same thing happening to them? They would be out of luck. I can just order another one through my bank and make withdraws directly through them during the day, but its the point of the matter. So bottom line is has anyone ever heard of a policy like this?
