So I tried to watch the Lone Ranger this morning. 2 minutes in - TopicsExpress

So I tried to watch the Lone Ranger this morning. 2 minutes in and I was done. First there is an opening scene with an old Indian in a display in a natural history museum with a backdrop of Monument Valley and a dead crow perched on his head. The display is among others like a brown bear in its habitat, etc. Small boy tries to shoot the suddenly alive Indian with his cap gun. Awesome disgusted. Fell asleep. Woke up and saw a big bunch of white people standing around in what looks like the outskirts of Kayenta saying a bunch of weird crap. Fell asleep again. Woke up a while later after a few nightmares to a bunch of Texas Rangers riding, drinking and killing each other in Canyon de Chelly. Then they are all out in Monument Valley again which is about 70 miles away. I cant imagine how this was permitted. Without a doubt, many people are very upset about this. More damage. In the end, they ride out around Shiprock and the stone wall. All sacred and magical places. Also depicted: Chippewas and buffalo in Monument Valley. Besides all the inaccuracies, the acting was horrible and stupid. In the end, The Lone Ranger tells his little Indian friend they need new names. He asks him if he knows what tonto means in Spanish. Yes, its fiction and yes, they are location shots. But a whole generation or two of kids who dont pay attention in school (or no info on tribes is included in the curriculum) have been indoctrinated with the John Wayne/Monument Valley myth. Whole thing was worse than I expected. Who were the Chippewas who made Johnny Depp an honorary tribal member? Most likely a few of them in tribal government who like to hang around with movie stars and make up bullshit stories. I was wondering why the Chippewas made him a tribal member or some such thing when the movie was reported to have been filmed in Dinetah. I get it now.
