So I was arguing with this Christian dude about whether extra terrestrial life could exist according to what the bible says. I think that aliens could be out there and he was very against the idea, but i thought it was a pretty interesting debate. Against: The Bible does not say anything about the existence of aliens. Rebuttal: The Bible makes no mention of the North and South American continents, but they are there. If the Bible strictly says something does NOT exist, then fair enough, Christians can assume that it doesnt, but if the existence of something is not clarified in the Bible, we cant say that it doesnt exist just because it doesnt say anything about it in the Bible. Eg. the Bible DOES state that there is only one God, meaning that according to Christian beliefs, no other Gods exist, however the Bible says nothing about whether life exists outside of Earth or not, and we can not assume that it doesnt when it isnt even mentioned. Against: We are the only ones made in Gods image, and if there were others then Jesus would have to have gone and died for their sins as well. Rebuttal: it is true that the Bible states we are the only things created in Gods image, and that means that Jesus would only have died for us. However, what about creatures that were NOT created in his image? Animals? Bacteria? Plants? There is nothing in the Bible that says unintelligent, unhumanoid life cant exist beyond the boundaries of Earth. For all we know, there could be a space cow eating space grass pooping out a space doodie with space germs in it. No Biblical perspective can say that that scenario is impossible. Against: God appointed us to have dominion over THIS world, not other worlds. Rebuttal: That is true, we were intended to rule over the creatures of this world and according to the Bible we were not given authority over any other world. But the word world does not strictly mean planet. Does the world end where the Earths atmosphere ends, or can you keep going, to the moon, to different planets, to different solar systems, galaxies, and any other cosmic systems we are not advanced enough to see yet? The Earth does not define our world. We have already walked on the moon, put our machines on other planets, one of our probes has already left the solar system, our world is not restricted to our home planet. When the Bible referred to the world, who is to say that it did not mean the ENTIRE world, or in other words the universe? Would we not have dominion over the planet with the space cow also? It seems pretty stupid to me that an all powerful, all knowing God, would create a race with the ability to leave the planet they were birthed on, and leave nothing for them to find in the infinitely large cosmos he created. I could be wrong, this is of course just speculation, but the point of the debate was not to prove whether or not aliens exist or not. It was to show that aliens could indeed exist according to even the strictest Christian beliefs, which I believe they most definitely can. There is nothing blasphemous about organisms that live on other planets guys, chill.
