So, I was at the Rangers Pens game last night. I have no problem - TopicsExpress

So, I was at the Rangers Pens game last night. I have no problem with the shootout ruling, but how is it that both teams were allowed to leave the ice? Did no one in the building know that the play was under review? Regardless, someone somewhere committed an egregious oversight. Prior to play resuming, the three stars of the game had already been announced (they were later altered) and I was in a corridor leaving the arena. Until the game restarted I had no idea the outcome was in doubt because THE PUBLIC ADDRESS ANNOUNCER HAD SAID THE GAME WAS OVER. I actually like shootouts, but a major criticism of the shootout is that it relies too heavily on one player (the goalie) to decide the outcome of a team game. Obviously, a huge mental advantage occurs when any goaltender who is told he just lost a game is suddenly given a chance to seek redemption. Conversely, his opponent, already credited with a victory, has to gear back up after having started to unwind from a very intense competition. Surely the NHL can do a better job of keeping its players and fans aware of whats happening in a situation such as this one. At least the league got the call right, but somehow Im not surprised to see the NHL screw up a replay even while getting it right. Logistics, people. They shouldnt be that hard!
