So, I will distil it to its most important parts: 1. THANK YOU...thank you so very much from the bottom of my heart. I did not grow up always safe...I know the bad that is out there. I am so very, very grateful to all of those who took the hard road because they believed that what had been made here in this country was something AMAZING, and worth fighting FOR. ****And if you do not remember an America like this, I am sorry to the point of tears...but please dont give up - LOOK for what is beautiful and FIGHT in your OWN WAY...whatever that might be...to make that grow and touch your country, and spread to EVERYONE. 2. TEACH YOUR CHILDREN...but, more importantly, REMIND THEM....too often, we think that because we taught our kids something once, that is enough, and they will remember. We also think that because WE see something as obvious, that our kids will see it, too. Truth is, 18 year olds were SIX (6) on 9/11. They probably dont even remember Americas patriotic phase, either. Iraq was this thing that happened a long time ago, for really unclear reasons. WHY THEY SHOULD THANK A VET is NOT something that the GET by THEMSELVES. TALK ABOUT IT...and do it again next year...and the year after that...and the year after that....IF YOU ARE THANKFUL....teach a kid WHY. 3.PROTECT VETERANS....too many people do not realize that SERVICEMEMBERS are NOT PERMITTED.....BY LAW....to advocate for themselves. As you see things that YOU feel are wrong, dont keep it to yourself....petition....VOTE....run for OFFICE....speak out to the press and social media....because THAT, my friends, is AMERICA (NOT BACON). 4.MILITARY FAMILIES ARE DIFFERENT....dont expect the same things from them. The majority of their relatives are related by SERVICE, not GENETICS. It is hard for genetic families to see their military families drift away...but that is no necessary, if they become INVOLVED with their military family and try to understand the differences I will mention, and if they accept the SERVICE relatives as their OWN as well...since we do LOYALTY in a really BIG way. We cant always go somewhere noisy. We cant always go somewhere hedonistic. We dont like to be separated from our kids and spouses...TOGETHER=VACATION and SEPARATED=DEPLOYED. Politics pisses us off...in a BIG WAY. Do you like talking about YOUR ass-hole boss??? And that is just the tip of the iceberg.... 5.DID I MENTION:TEACH YOUR CHILDREN?? - once again, remember that time passes differently for kids - show them and teach them, because they will not uptake it automatically. Do they KNOW what a poppy represents? Do they know what happened on 9/11? Do they know why we went to Iraq (Do YOU know why we went to Iraq?)? Do they know what al-Qaeda is? Do they know why we went to Afghanistan? Do they know what is happening in Syria right now? Do they know what happened at Benghazi? Do they know how SEAL TEAM 6 DIED?
