So, Im a little behind on Doctor Who, but I just saw the Dalek - TopicsExpress

So, Im a little behind on Doctor Who, but I just saw the Dalek episode last night. I thought it was kinda ... weird. It dealt with high philosophical issues in a kind of a disjointed way, and added things to the Dalek literature that I dont think make sense. However, the longer I think about the episode the more impressed I am with the realization that ... I almost never see that level of gender equality or fair racial diversity in American television or movies. Im really impressed with the casting on that show. Almost every episode passes the Bechdel test, and often even for groups other than women. Its so refreshing to me to see humanity portrayed so realistically in terms of part-distribution and with so little stereotype in terms of roles available. Obviously, the diversity showcased is British diversity - they have a different ethnic makeup than we do here but - the show really treats all British people as full humans. American sci fi often wants to cast all the white actors as humans and everyone else as aliens, but not Doctor Who. It means a lot to me.
