So Ive seen this thing about the girl who wanted to play football and the CYO wont let her because reasons so heres my two cents: if you think this girl shouldnt be allowed to play because the rules or whatever, you have bad opinions. Firstly, if you think for one iota of a second that theyd let this girl play if she followed the rules, Im not really sure what planet youve been on because the result wouldve been you cant play football, youre a girl. Secondly, nobody wouldve raised this as an issue if itd been a boy because they wouldve said oh, well, lets just get your stuff taken care of so you can be on the roster. Who cares if a girl plays football? The counter-arguments are so unbelievably full of cognitive dissonance I dont even know where to start. Oh, shell get hurt. Uh, ok, well, so will boys so its ok for boys to get hurt but not girls? Newsflash: this isnt the 14th century, chivalry is dead (and also really stupid). Girls cant play. Why not? If she can meet the same standards as the boy players, I dont see why she shouldnt get a chance. Heres a thought experiment: take your favorite football player in the NFL. Same height, weight, strength, skill, except now the player has breasts and a vagina. What changed? (hint: the answer is nothing). Start a girls league! Yo, nobody is funding this because of the pervasive girls cant play football! thing above. Girls cant play football because nobody is starting a girls league but they cant join the only teams available because girls cant play football. Look, when you tell a girl she cant play football, youre telling her not only is she inferior to boys, but youre telling her theres two acceptable places for her in the world of football: as a cheerleader or in the Lingerie Football League. Both of these exist as fetishized aspects of the sport, full of women who are criminally underpaid, for the pure enjoyment of dudes. Thats a bad message to send to other human beings.
