So John Martin wants to run on TRUST. That is the entire front - TopicsExpress

So John Martin wants to run on TRUST. That is the entire front page of his recent mailer and the back accuses Ken Cornell of wanting to raise taxes for roads. It almost makes it sound like Ken Cornell caused the problem but, wait a minute, Ken Cornell has never held elective office before. This is his first run. And then Martin says we shouldnt raise any taxes until the county does something about the $500 million backlog that has built up over the years. Look folks, I dont know if I will support the 1% road tax or not because I dont like the idea of rewarding bad behavior. But we have to admit that the problem has nothing to do with Ken Cornell who is only trying in good faith to get a start on correcting the problem. He has also said that all budgeted funds for roadwork should be exclusively used for roads (thats where the problem was in the past) in addition to any tax increase funds. He also has the financial skills to bird dog the issue (education and work experience) and audit the books if need be to make sure the verify goes with the trust. Additionally, if were $500 million in the hole on roads, then how is Martin going to solve the problem at the same time he is gung ho for the Plum Creek City in the Swamp which will cause a huge, and I mean huge, added expenditure for roads and other infrastructure on the public dime. Ken Cornell opposes that. Maybe Martin has some voodoo economics up his sleeve. Unfortunately for him, sticking pins in dolls wont solve the problem. Pay attention, citizens of Alachua County, John Martin has no idea how to correct the shortfall or budget properly as evidenced by his time as a Hawthorne City Commissioner and Mayor. The city faced a serious financial dilemma when he left office. Use your head, vote for Ken Cornell, a man who understands finance and the importance of a good environment to boot. He is on the right side of the two biggest issues facing the County this year. Dont vote for fluff over stuff. VOTE KEN CORNELL FOR ALACHUA COUNTY COMMISSIONER, DISTRICT 4, ON NOVEMBER 4TH.
