So Michael Giles was arrested immediately and charged with second-degree attempted murder after he was attacked at a nightclub in Tallahassee, FL, during a brawl that included 30-40 people, and consequently shot three people that are still living yet George Zimmerman can get acquitted on all charges after he chased down and shot 17-year-old Trayvon Martin to death in Sanford, FL? Unlike Zimmerman, Giles was a proud member of the US Air Force that was married with three children. In addition to serving his country, Giles had no criminal record prior to this incident. Currently, Giles is serving a mandatory 25-year sentence in prison even though the man that attacked Giles admitted that he was angry that someone had interrupted his dance, and wanted to hurt the next person he saw. The closest person to him was Giles. Moreover, the attacker’s own friend testified she was worried the aggressor would kill or seriously injure someone. In comparison, state witnesses testified that Michael, was calmly standing to the side, and did nothing to provoke the attack. Stand-Your-Ground laws, particularly in Florida, DO NOT protect African Americans. Lest we forget that Marissa Alexander (another Black Floridian that has not been protected by Stand-Your-Ground) faces up to 60 YEARS behind bars if she is convicted again!
